Hi Cheryl, thanks for this piece! Very interested in E-books. Have a manuscript I want to publish AND sell as an E-book and am trying to find out, “How I do dat?” Can’t say I’m enamored with paper and all… Don’t know how my collection of “wonderful books” will be appreciated by those inheriting ALL of my treasures?? Just watched a friend’s family gently deposit his stuff-of-years into a double-dumpster… Times do change

“Time Thief” could be a resource for you. Follow the link to her site and check it out. The other site to check out would be The Hack Novelist on my “Sites I Like” list. Good Luck. Keep me posted.

How depressing to think of reading a book with no special feel to the pages. I guess an e-reader would eliminate the clutter in my house but it would take away such beautiful friends. I love the feel of a book in my hand. Maybe one day.

Point well made. E-readers are devoid of any ‘special feel’ in a very big way. Perhaps there is a design clue here for future versions.

Luddite that I am, no e-books or e-readers have yet landed in my lap. I’m guessing it’s only a matter of time…….but I don’t know how they can replace the feel of pages being turned, or the smell of a good book.

I’m with you Janet, the feel (or smell) of a good book can never be replaced. I think that’s the beauty of it – not having to choose one over the other. They both have a place in my world. I love my book shelves loaded up with favourites, and I love roaming through book stores. The e-reader is the preferred choice when I’m traveling – an entire library that fits in my purse.

Traveling this summer is what has me thinking that e-books might be in my future. Not lugging books, or fitting them into a carry-on size suitcase has a definite appeal. Glad to hear that they are useful when we’re mobile.
