I tried to find a shot that depicted growth that wasn’t about flora, but failed. These peonies are just breaking through the hard, dry soil of early spring and look nothing like they will all grown up!

… and determined growth, Mr. B. The soil those tender shoots forced their way through was hard as rock from the weight of winter snow and freezing temperatures.

Like you, despite trying for other shots, I ended up with flora for this challenge. I love the intense color and how the peony bud look like an alien life form. Are you sure that it is not quietly whispering “Feed me!” while you take the photo?

Aha, you said it, Janet, Aliens! I’m sure I’ve screamed through a movie or two where giant versions of these chewed up an swallowed a few humans.

Thanks, Carole. My favourite flower too, but as they break the surface they look all toothy, don’t you think?
