Written by Kevin J. Anderson from a story and lyrics by Neil Peart, drummer, percussionist and lyricist for Rush, a Canadian rock band formed in 1968 in Toronto, Canada. The book expands on the story related in Rush’s 20th studio album of the same name. It’s my first steampunk novel, but I’m a Rush and Neil Peart fan and couldn’t resist. And, I always watch “Wild, Wild West” every time it’s aired so I’m a little bit aware of how magical this genre can be.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book!
It’s a little bit 1984 but not as dystopian, and it’s a little bit Wizard of Oz with Alice in Wonderland all folded together like hands clenched in prayer. An entertaining read.
I highly recommend it!
The illustrations by album artist Hugh Syme are gorgeous!
The book also contains all the lyrics from the Rush album. If it’s your first steampunk book too, suspend disbelief and just let the story happen!
