Brrr! Love the fire and the breath! He needs boots and a hat with flaps!

Those are boots, wimpy ones, but boots nonetheless. I would love to see him in a (furry) hat with flaps, Kristen.

I would not want to be there but I’m glad you both were to show me, fire in snow is stunning!

It gives off pretty good heat too, Gilly.

Yes, the breath is the touch that makes the photo special. Along with his body language that says cold more loudly than words could. And the small fire.

But, but … how else does he breath out ‘steam’?

I like the contrast between his frosty breath and the fire beside him. He looks well bundled up. Over Christmas we had tea at Langdon Hall in Cambridge and there was a fire burning outside that we stood around, warming ourselves — looking at your photo I can still smell that burning wood and feel its heat.

Thanks, Allyson … it’s a great way to use all the wood end cuts from the site.

Looks chilly there: the breath, the posture, the fingers curled into the mitts, the headband, the proximity to the fire. Where’s the carafe? Probably strapped to the photographer.

If I could just get him to drink hot coffee/tea or hot chocolate!
