Curves.
I find the many curves in this shot fascinating … the curve where the two three trunks grow together, the multiple curves in the fungus growing out of the dividing line where the two trees meet, and the slight curvy nature of the surrounding trees since I was lying at the bottom of the subject tree shooting up.

Great curves! I’ve never seen a fungus like that. Will the tree survive?

I’m not sure whether this will shorten the life of the two, fused trees, Janet. They are usually found on fallen trees but I’m learning something new every day in the bush. Some of these bracket fungi get quite huge. They make novel mantel ornaments, because once down, they turn rock hard. I have some research to do.

What a mantle that one would make! I’ve not seen any similar fungi as huge as your photo shows here in NC. You might have a great business exporting them for mantle pieces😊.

Visitors have picked these from dead fall to take home … but I’m monitoring this one to see just how big it will grow on a living tree.

nice curves accentuated by the straight lines of the tree trunks.

Thanks, Scott … it is an unusual almost symmetrical ‘twin’ tree. I’ll be keeping an eye (and lens) on it.

I love those big fungi – they look as though you could grab them and climb on them (don’t try it though!).

When, if, the twin tree ever falls, I’ll salvage that bracket fungus, Allison.
