This brings back memories. What an interesting photo subject. Shows how just the right post-production can make such a difference — that snowy effect that mimicks the way channels too often looked with those rabbit ears. 🙂 I have vague memories of these — mostly of fiddling with them in frustrating to get them to just the right angle to work. I recall once finding that if my brother stood near them, the reception was better, so we bribed him to stand beside the set while watching TV.

🙂 Allyson! I remember being the ‘fiddler’ following my Dad’s instructions … then once reception got better, I had to ‘freeze’ and stay that way for the duration!

A great blast from the past, and a wonderful depiction of said past with the b&w treatment. Ours always had aluminum foil flags trying to improve the reception of our two channels. Happy New Year, Cheryl!!!

A Happy 2014 to you too, Janet! This blast from the past is still very ‘present day’ in my mother-in-laws house! 🙂

“Earth to Wordless Wednesday” calling…! I love this shot. (But, hey, you-all mean that is not how you watch TV these days? Ah well, I’m from the Okanagan; we’re genuinely retro here.)

I just may go retro if satellite TV continues to be a frustration!

Thanks, Gilly. I found it in my mother-in-law’s house last week … intrigued and, of course, it triggered lots of delightful memories.

Ah, life was simple then… Now we have seventeen remotes and I can’t be bothered figuring out how any of them work. I love the black and white choice… and the graininess, so beautifully reminiscent of that occasional static, ‘snow’ — which, as I recall, never stopped us watching anything. Happy past, present and future!

And, now we have 100’s of stations and very little of interest in the programs.

Cheryl, you managed to make an ordinary utilitarian piece of equipment into a sculpture in this photograph. So simple and evocative of days bygone but with your twist:).

Thank you, Allison, you make me blush. Since we are kicking off 2014 with Wordless Wednesday I wanted an image about looking back and to the future and reason to embrace the present!

And a happy 2014 to you! I remember them too, often with tin foil wrapped around the tips when reception was bad.
