Beautiful, Cheryl — the delineated lines (and natural curves) of elements and colour, from red plants to water to ice to trees to sky. And that gorgeous sheen on the receding ice. This really says to me “change of seasons,” though it’s too bad it’s so late this year. My eye is drawn secondarily to the reflection of the trees on the right, just forward of the ice line.

Thanks, Allyson. I am forever mystified by the way the lake ice goes out. Like the flick of a switch it is there, as you see in this photo, and then … gone.

What a gorgeous shade of blue, sort of warm sapphire – though obviously not much above zero in reality. And did those red leaves make it through the whole winter intact? This photo just sings spring and in a matter of days, or maybe hours, you can launch your canoe!

Yes, the red leaves made it, Elizabeth, they were embalmed in about 4′ of snow and ice this past winter! Fingers crossed the boats get launched this weekend.

Mid-morning, Gilly, shooting due east. Was trying to show the ‘glare’ on the ice. Cropped the sun spot at the top edge out of the frame.

The ice is parting! I guess that is a sign of spring in some parts of the country on April 30th (giggle). Seriously though, it is a lovely shot with the sun reflecting off the ice and the water taking us towards summer!

Took this Sunday morning, Allison. The ice went out in a ‘snap of the fingers’ overnight Monday!

Not reading other comments yet, because I want to say that the first sound that came out of me as I clicked on this photo was a delighted humming “Mmmmm!” Very lovely, and telling the story of seasonal change so clearly, the receding ice, the jewel-blue freezing water, the reflections of the dark trees, the lighter blue sky, and the mysterious deep red flowers (or foliage) in the foreground, concealed in the shadows so that one has to look three times before they reveal themselves, just in that way that colours subtly emerge as day breaks. Wow.

I just had to forgive Winter for being so stubborn about being gone this year when photo opps like this reveal themselves. Ain’t nature grande, Barabara?

Thanks, Uncle Spike! There are times when I think people must get bored with these perpetual images of where I live.

… and cold, Celestine! The ice has gone now, finally. But, glad I got the shot before the ice went out.
