Of course you can title it “Yearning”. No need to blush! A beautiful shot, Cheryl. I immediately thought “two roots, one heart.” What a perfect relationship. This photo also helped me remember how much I liked shooting in black and white, how the textures and light create magic. And how interesting it is in my brain to interpret the color I see into what will become a. B&W image. I think I’ll have to try out that setting on my camera.

I take most of my shots in colour, Janet, and post process in B&W. When I had two camera bodies I set to monochrome and switched lenses … maybe I should start doing that again.

Quite striking in black and white, Cheryl. And I love the shades and the textures — the rough bark and the smooth leaves in the foreground, at the “foot” of the trees, which seem almost alive. Maybe that is because they look like legs. But also, I agree, there’s something sexual about the shot — symbolic — the two trees yearning against one another.

I say ‘sexy’ and you say it so much better, Allyson! The story behind seeking this shot … the host for the upcoming show challenged me to come up with a sexy nature shot. I wandered the forest with my camera, seeking sexy. My gawd … it’s everywhere … but, of course! Can I title it, ‘Yearning’ for the catalogue without blushing?

There is wisdom in that tree that knows so much, even separating into two to tell us more.

Many of the trees in our bush are over 75′ tall and survived strip logging from early 1900’s! Wisdom? Yes, Allison. If only they could tell us what they see.

Wisdom was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this beautiful photo. Such a grand old tree.

Actually, two grand old trees that ‘joined’ as they grew, Diana. I will show them to you … soon!

This is so effective on so many levels. And, again, it’s a photo that really works well in black and white as opposed to colour. The play of light and shade, the sharp detail … and the visual double-entendre, too, with the shape of the trunk also having a likeness to the legs (and leafy feet) of a forest creature. A feeling of magic afoot. Ooops, sorry about the pun. I love this.

Thanks, Barabara. I like the notion that I just might have captured a bit of magic here. Love the pun. I thought it was kind of sexy too. Went to B&W because there were so many shades of lush greens it was actually distracting.
