I’m failing at words to say how much I like this photograph. With the color, the movement in the composition, the balance of positive and negative space, and the overall energy it would be a wonderful shot to turn into a painting. Of course, a limited edition of photographic prints would be pretty spectacular, too!

OMG, Janet, you have inspired me. I have my first-ever solo show coming up in Sept/Oct. I am going to have this transferred to canvas for myself and placed on an easel in the main entrance of the exhibit space. I will produce a limited edition of photographic prints too! Shaking-in-my-boots in the near north!!!

Way to go, Cheryl!!!!! I am so pleased to hear that you are putting your work out there for others to see. And that you recognize you have the courage you need to do so!!!! So shake on…I promise that the shaking won’t kill you, or I would have been a goner many concerts ago. And tell me how to order a print of your wonderful ravens, please!

I thought this was a picture of a painting. Either way, stunning! I love the colours you’ve gone with; fits well with the mythology and the gold on the birds creates a sense of the magical. Now you just have to do it as a painting…. (:

… and, if I’m not mistaken, it’s Raven bringing light to the World”? Illustrating that iconic Haida creation myth? Lovely — and I so agree with Allison regarding the tones you have achieved. Nice work!

Thank you, Barabara. My small black raven sculpture is holding a red bead. I wanted it to represent the Haida legend of the raven stealing light, either the sun or the moon, so had to neutralize it! Fun post-processing mini project.

What an exquisite piece, Cheryl. I’m trying to figure out what it is on? Wait a minute, I just realized it is by you! Those shimmery golden rainbow tones against the red background are absolutely captivating. And the the delicacy of the berry(?) in the raven’s mouth is such a fine detail.

Thank you Allison … it is a photograph of two small, black metal sculptures from my dining room table, post-processed with Picasa3 freeware. Every once in a while I like to play with a shot to see how far I can take it.

I was reading all the comments trying to figure out what this was and finally found out at the last one. Were the Haida style line designs on the birds part of the texture of the original sculptures or did you add them? I agree with you about the fun of taking an image as far as you can with post-processing.

Yes, Elizabeth, the Haida style lines are actually cutouts in the metal sculpture creating a lovely silhouette and letting background colour show.
