Cheryl thank you for the link to the “original” –how powerful it is — and how cool your interpretation! Wow.

Cheryl, I’m not going to read any of the other comments yet. I’m delightfully puzzled. and puzzledly delighted. What a great “sketch” treatment you have done with this puzzling object, first of all, and I have no idea how. Nor, really, do I have any idea of the “what”. An angel? A hood ornament for a ceremonial kingly elephant? A distant cousin of the Eiffel Tower? A terrific image, and I have no idea of the scale. But I love it.

Thank you! I wanted to see the ‘pure form’ if that makes any sense, so eliminated every bit of noise from the photo but the ‘knife’ lines! Decided to keep and share this version.

I give up. I’ve studied this and studied it and all I can offer is that it looks like a sort of knife tree. But I’m not sure knife trees actually exist. I really have no idea. Not even something crazy. Well, except knife tree…

When I was standing beneath it to take this shot, it did look like a GIANT knife tree, Carin. This is the “Spirit Catcher” on the shores of Kempenfeldt Bay in Barrie, ON. Believe me it’s worth the drive to experience this giant up close and personal!

This is intriguing, Cheryl. It’s hard to tell the size of the piece from this photo — I assumed it was small. But I gather from your “towering” description above that it’s not. The figure looks like an angel, but the shapes hanging from the wings resemble knives. Interesting lines and shapes here, emphasized by the sketch-like look of it (post-production?).

Absolutely, beautifully intriguing, Cheryl. Is this one of your masterpieces? In any event I love the way the mirror like images merge and recede and the simple lines absolutely capture our imagination!

‘Spirit Catcher’ by Ron Baird is a towering sculpture, Allison, that I’ve always loved. It watches over the shores of Kempenfeldt Bay (on Lake Simcoe) at Barrie, Ontario.
