Oh I laughed out loud when I clicked onto this picture. I’m not going to read the comments below yet, just enjoy the fun and the questions this raises. Such a talismanic expression — like one of those mysterious Egyptian cats — and I am sure with special mystical powers. but /// size? and made of??? I think I am going to search out the reveal below. Thank you Cheryl.

I’m so pleased that it made you laugh, Barabara. Mischievous expression don’t you think? Wood carving 15″ tall X 10″ wide at the base. It does have a Bastet quality to it.

I love the way it looms out of the background with its piercing eyes and alizarin ears.

That’s a very arresting face. Love the colours and the perspective you’ve chosen. Is it sitting on something, or is it part of a lid perhaps? It’s hard to tell the size of it from this close-up.

Thanks Allyson. It’s 15″ tall and 10″ in diameter at the base. It’s standing on a small table.

I thought you’d like her, Carin. If she is a simplified rendition of Bastet, as I believe, that makes her the godess of cats!

I thought it was ceramic at first – like mine this week, it’s fantastic and I agree it looks like Bastet, yours?

Yes, it’s mine, Gilly. Small wood carving. Hand painted. I’ve had it longer than my husband. Can’t remember where in my travels I found it.
