There’s much to appreciate in this shot: first, that pretty bird with its bright red claw taking a dainty step — more interesting because partly hidden by grasses. But there’s also the vivid greens and the clear reflection of the grasses in the water. It really feels like a special moment you’ve captured. You must have been very quiet!

I was told these are a rare sight… We were once lucky enough to see them nesting (in trees!). A funny thing to behold as they’re rather large birds. I’ve never seen one fly… oh, how lovely! This is the part of FLA I love. xo

They seem to like this area, Carin. Even more rare are Green Herons and we have a pair at our pond almost every day!

Is he a heron or crane? Beautiful and I agree, lovely to see him in his natural watery environment. Also that “touch of red” in the reed top (or??) is perfect. A lovely shot, aromatic in its watery splendour.

He is a Wood Stork and that touch of red is his foot! So … white body, black wing tips, bald head, black legs and red feet! He uses his feet to pat and squeeze the mud and pokes that long, curved bill into the water to feed. Fascinating to watch, Barabara. I was waiting for D. to hit his tee shot and there it was, absolutely non-plussed by our presence. A lucky grab shot.

I’m not sure how you managed to get everything so perfectly in focus – but you have impressed the hell out of me Cheryl! This is gorgeous.

Thank you Allison … ‘phoneography’ point and shoot. My android phone has a great camera, and it fits in my pocket, golf bag or my purse. This critter was fishing in the pond beside the Tee Box!

Even more handsome in the air, Gilly. his wingspan is huge and tipped in black.
