Yes, I also wonder why they did it. It is an interesting contrast though, and a most thought provoking image. Was the building falling apart and they had to do something so they decided to do that, or is it purely a statement?

Great questions, Elizabeth … Next trip to Toronto I’m going to try to get some answers.

Oh, but I don’t feel it’s necessarily a shame. I love the fairytale quality of this shot, enhanced by the angle of course — and the “enhancement” is such a playful note. Very clever shot.

Love the angle you’ve shot from, and the light in the windows. I thought for a moment you’d manipulated the pic, though I couldn’t imagine how… there’s something unrealistic-looking about it… I mean that in a good way. The flat grey of the sky, the slight graininess of the image… it all works well to enhance the feel of the surreal-esque architecture. Nice eye!

I like the stark plainness of this photo Cheryl, and the fact that you haven’t tried to show the building in context to others. It is very interesting the way they have attempted to modernize the building with cladding only and have not altered the lines at all – did you feel it worked?

Great question, Allison. I assume the architect did their best, but … I don’t understand WHY they spliced, or even attempted to splice, the classy old with the too-shiney new. This is on the NW corner of Younge and Queen in Toronto.

What an unusual thing they’ve done to the building!

A shame really, Gilly. The old brick and stone worked building was so bloody handsome
