Is it one of those first floor doors that were used to throw bales or grain down to ground level?

Could be, Gilly, except that the building was very small and very tall … its a mystery.

This one I’m calling “Secrets”. What is being kept in or out of this place??

Yes … so many ways to keep the passages locked … from the outside, Carin.

So many methods of securing this window — the hook with the broken-off eye, the keyhole, the several twirly-wood pieces on nails … and all on the outside! Someone may have over-thought this? Or were they trying to lock something/one in???
Wonderful.

There wasn’t anyone around to talk about this particular building. Your imaginings are the best, Barbara!

This photo tells the story of country ingenuity doesn’t it? If you don’t have matching hinges, no matter, there’ll be something else that works! Hmm, and I wonder what that little piece nailed on in the middle is. Also, what a lovely piece of work that hook is – so much work has gone into making all this functional. I love how you’ve captured the worn wood too telling it’s own story.

I would guess the builder’s motto would have been something like, “Get the job done”. Even with all the miss-matched bits and pieces it looks solid, Allison, despite the aging wood, the mold on the roof line, the trees reclaiming space.
