On Wednesdays all over the internet bloggers post a photo with no words to explain it. The idea is the photo says so much it doesn’t need a description.

It looks like a painting by Turner. The quality of light and, as Barbara says, the portentous feeling it creates. You expect a clipper ship to sail into the background and something to happen to it.

Thank you, Elizabeth. Wonderful that you say that. Turner is a personal favourite … perhaps he was being channelled ??

Absolutely stunning Cheryl! Your perspective is what makes this photo – soft and subtle at the same time as being grand and commanding. So captivating!

Geepers, thank you Allison! Kind of a nice surprise to discover that I’m not too old for blushing!

Oh, that is almost “biblically” beautiful. Omens in the sky, on the sand. The sea might be building up to part. The city in the background might be about to bring peace upon the world … or burn.
I am having trouble expressing what I mean: but there is something hugely portentous in this lovely view, I feel.

Only minutes before those clouds were ordinary fluffy, white clouds. The sunset was pretty but nothing in keeping with Fort Myers Beach reputation. Almost missed the ‘show’ going on behind me, Barabara, as I waited for the sunset to dazzle me.

The payoff for looking behind you, haha! Lovely, Cheryl. Can almost imagine that sunset walk. The reflection is the cherry.

I was standing out in the water to take my shots, Carin, getting clear of the crowds gathered to watch the sunset. As the sun kissed the horizon, the water rushed out, and I found myself standing high and dry on an exposed sandbar for a minute or more, before the water came rushing back up to mid-calf depth. Weird!
