To me this captures all the essence of spring – the brilliant light, the rushing water eddying around tree trunks, the last of the snow… And just a beautiful photo!

Thank you, Elizabeth. The waterfall has started up again there’s been such fierce and full thunderstorms, some hail laden, this past week.

Lovely, tranquil scene that really sings of spring — though I’ll bet that water’s icy. Such rich colours, including the hints of new green — and is the rusty tone in the water the tree roots or something else? You’ve caught the ripply effect of the water so beautifully here.

Thanks Allyson … icy waters for sure! It didn’t feel particularly tranquil taking the picture, listening to the waterfall roar down the slope behind me. It butted up against the trunk of this tree, jerked hard right forming the eddy at the base and then continued on in its rush for the lake.

I love how the reflections are golden though reality isn’t… Such a pretty shot with a surreal quality.

The surface runoff actually is golden-red, Carin, best seen where the waterfall flows into the lake. Another stunning surprise living up here on the Canadian Shield.

What a lovely dreamy spring scene Cheryl. I can just imagine standing on those banks watching and listening to the thaw, full of hope and exuberance!

It’s always exciting when the snow clears enough to safely climb down to the waterfall … we heard it roar for a couple of weeks before we got to it. It’s quiet now until Autumn rainy season.

Love this one. So rich in colour, an iciness and chill, but hope for melt-off.

Thanks, Mary … the waterfall is silent so I guess the melt-off is done until Fall.

Golly — this is perfect! I can absolutely smell the little greeny mossy things taking their first breaths of coming spring, and hear the rush of that almost frozen water! At first glance indeed I thought the water was still frozen, you’ve caught its icy quality so perfectly. Great composition too! Love this.

Thank you, Barabara … I get so excited every spring when I hear the waterfall wake up and roar down the slope to the lake. It’s quiet now.

🙂 Thank you, Celestine. This waterfall only runs during Fall rains and the Spring thaw
