No, but we certainly wanted to, Gilly. We were on the wrong side of a busy highway. Glad I had my long lens with me that trip.

Oh what a story lurks here! What textures too and what subtle and beautiful destroyed colours. Love this.

Thank you Barabara. I played a wee bit with this one using post-developing freeware to sharpen it up a touch.

Old abandoned buildings are full of intrigue. I’m like you, Cheryl. I will come to a skidding halt to take a pic. It’s almost an honouring thing, a nod to whoever’s life this was. I’d love an app that by waving your phone over the front door, you get the story of these humble places. There’s a little community on the shore drive between Newcastle and Port Hope, just a couple of houses, a school, a church. Abandoned now, but being saved from demolition thanks to the good work of a few. And there are plaques that say who lived there. No one especially special, just people. Best kind of plaques, when no vicars, warlords, kings or queens involved. (:
Also, unusual paint colour. Was this a barn?

I think it was a barn Carin. I love your notion of an app that tells the history of a building. This was spotted on a highway in Alabama. Next time you are up, I’m taking you to Moonstone … lovely old buildings with some locals who know a bit about them.

This image draws me in — the colour palette, the weathered doors barely hanging on, and the lines and geometry of the doors, walls, and roof. The detalls of the naked vines and peeling paint and unkempt grass add to the feeling of abandonment and loneliness.

Thanks Allyson. Saw this gem in the blistering heat of a mid-day sun while motoring through Alabama with my sister a couple years ago. Quick skid onto the shoulder and hopped out with the camera … voila!
