Hereabouts in the wild west we have a syndrome known as the Invisible Prairie Driver. In other words, a large 50’s or 60’s era car (often that vintage) driving along, and all one can see are two hands clutching the wheel and, sometimes, the peak of a tractor cap showing in the windshield as the vehicle approaches. First impression of your picture made me think of that! Except of course that this one is somehow being driven by a very pretty woman in the back seat, reflected in the rear-view mirror! Not sure how you did this, but I love it. And, of course, the “hand-painted” effect.

I would LOVE, lOvE, loVE to witness this syndrome, Barabara. The reflection is in the back window of an antique Ford (A or T?), and I am standing outside and behind the car to take the shot. Thank you for the delightful story!

I love the composition, the post processing effects, and the strong sense of character from the woman in the photo (you, I think?). Very clever and intriguing! And I still haven’t quite figured out where you were standing.

I was standing at the back of an old Model T or A, Elizabeth. The shot is my (yes, me) reflection in the back window as I took the shot. I still haven’t quite figured out where the reflection that slices me in half is coming from … behind me … off my lens? It wasn’t so obvious until the post-processing. A pleasant surprise and a wee bit of mystery.

It has an almost cartoon effect, inky. I like how it requires some studying to place the scene. At first I thought you were inside the car, and I initially thought ‘winter’ because of the white surround. Also because of what’s outside *my* window presently… Lovely effect.

Thanks, Carin. I’m still trying to figure out where the reflection between me and the glass of the rear window of the old Ford is coming from. May never know.

Aren’t you the creative genius Cheryl? At first I thought the driver had been somehow moved over but then I realized there is no driver (but the disembodied photographer is ‘driving’ the picture). I love the splash of red blouse that provides the definition and entry to the shot and the way we get to see through the car window to the minimal-ized view.

No creative genius, Allison, but thanks for that 🙂 I was just messing around with Picasa3 effects and liked the results.Originally thought the shot was too ‘messy’ to work but love the unexpected elements in the reflection.

Very cool, Cheryl. I think the reflection draws the eye inside to the unexpected. I love the line drawing effects you added.

Thanks, Janet. The line effect is an option in Picasa3 freeware. The reflection is created in the back window of an Antique Ford … Model A or T … dunno. There was no one around to ask when I took the shot in Fort Myers, FLA.
