What a hilarious shot! You were quick with the camera on this one and managed a lovely composition too. He/she looks like he’s peeking right at you. Lovely soft summer colours, and it’s clearly taken through a screen, which also whispers “summer” to me. I like the strong blocks of colour here too — the dark trunk at left, the green of the hedge and grass, the blue of the water, and then another line of grassy shore beyond.

Thanks, Allyson. It was strange ‘Great Egret’ behaviour. It was hunting at the edge of the pond. I wish I knew what made it take a hard left and push through the shrubs and peek into our lanai from behind the palm tree for an extended period time. Curious creature …

Wonderful! Like Allison, at first (but it only took a sec) I thought that was a branch or a cane handle poking into view — what a humorous bird, and what a long neck! Lovely summery composition too, I can smell the grass, the soft stream beyond, and love the texture of peering through (I think?) a screened window or door???

It was peeking through the Lanai, Barabara, head poking through shurbs, over top flowers and around trees as it strutted along the screened wall.

At first I didn’t get it but I think it’s a swan (very long necked) looking through a screen door to see what you’re up to. I love that you actually captured a curious look on her face!

Its a Great Egret Allison. They are very common in this area. Stunning to see how long it can telescope that neck …!

So pleased that it gave you a smile, Diana. The egret peeked out from various points in the shrubs along the edge of the lanai … his neck stretching ever higher (or is that ‘longer’) to see inside.

Love this for a list of reasons: 1) the obvious. what a catch! I wonder which of you was more surprised. 2) I can FEEL that air. and it’s nice. 3) I can smell it too. also nice. 4) And that chunky Florida grass under my bare feet. 5) Am guessing there’s a fish place on the water nearby, with umbrellas and a view… Thank you for this. Much savoured, much enjoyed. Will keep the image with me today. Makes me smile.

Yes, there is a fishing place … the pond right behind us. My sister ‘zens’ out there in the wee hours every morning while I take the pups for a walk. She caught (and released) one so far.
