Green and red yet not at all Christmassy – it feels more like spring or early summer and that enhances the poignancy of the old decrepit doorway. I love this!

Thank you, Elizabeth. This photo safari was in the depths of summer if I remember correctly.

“Glorious decline” indeed. There’s something intriguing about abandoned doorways, and this one has such character — the colours, especially the red, and the worn wood. And what’s on the windows — are they papered over? Love the contrast with the stone and the tease of green at right and bottom.

Other than the piece of plywood over a broken pane, I think those windows are covered in layers of old dust or perhaps, whitewashed, Allyson. I can’t help but wonder when someone last stepped across that threshold … the ‘green’ was quite overgrown.

I agree. The story is the red door. All kinds of possibilities. Love this series, Cheryl. Do you have background on any of the sites?

Mary M. could probably fill me in on the background, Carin. This shot was taken on Washburn Island, Lake Scugog.

Even with the lovely red, this is such a gentle image Cheryl 🙂

Thanks Gilly … A side door to an old barn … easy to ‘see’ the farmer coming and going for chores.

What a thing of beauty! I think it’s the contrasts – the worn wood, the stone, the green foliage, the hints of red paint on the door – that make this composition so enchanting.

OH Cheryl, another stunning instance of glorious decline. And the colour! How cheeky someone was, once, to paint the door red on that old stone house: a story in itself. And all in all a wonderful shot!

Even cheekier … this is a door into an old barn that someone loved enough once upon a time to paint red, Barabara.
